First Person Contest

Live in Central Brooklyn? Do you have questions about what’s going on in your neighborhood? Well, Brooklyn Deep wants YOU to investigate and get answers. We are looking for Central Brooklyn residents to report on community stories in the “first person.” Our top three stories will receive a cash prize! Entry deadline is November 1st. 

Contest Guidelines

  • Read our First Person guidelines, before you start reporting!
  • First Person Reporter Contestants need to have lived in one of the following neighborhoods: Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Brownsville or Ocean Hill (Community Boards 3, 8, 9 or 16)  for at least 5 years.
  • All ages welcomed.
  • Written articles should be $1,500 to 2,500 words, and should be accompanied by a picture.
  • Videos and audio entries should be less than 8 minutes, and should include a description (300 to 500 words) of your project.
  • Photo essays should include at least 8 pictures, and all pictures should have a descriptive caption.
  • All creative multimedia projects that follow guidelines are welcomed!

Prizes

  • 1st place: $400 cash prize, story published and winner honored at the Brooklyn Deep launch party
  • 2nd place: $150 and story published
  • 3rd place: $50 and story published
